CARNOUSTIE Theatre Club's presentation of 'Chase Me Up Farndale Avenue, S'il Vous Plait!', by David McGillivray and Walter Zerlin Jnr, has been pulling in the crowds at the Dibble Tree Theatre this week.
The talented writers have produced a series of farces poking outrageous, zany, fun at the amateur production through the efforts of the fictional, but lovable, Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen's Guild Dramatic Society.

The cast comprises, from left - Betty Gibson, Siobhan Fagan, Eve Swinley, Linzy McCreadie and Andy Gilbride.

Each of the five performers plays several outrageous characters complete with multiple, high speed costume changes, a set and properties that seems almost alive and a badly behaved Hoover! Add to this the confusion for audiences and players when the sub characters are named Mr and Mrs Carrott, Barrett, Garrett, Parrott and Charot.

The talented cast is led by Mrs Reece, chairman of the Guild (and the company's leading light and knows it), played by Betty Gibson who is the master of the tongue twister "Great Scott! My mistress's husband in the arms of my mistress's employer's business partner's wife!" She is also successful as an occasional table and a sponge!

Eve Swinley is Thelma, a quick tempered prima donna who plays herself and everything else from sex siren (saved by a blackout) to an outrageous Mrs Mac character. A delicious entertainer with a distinct love of cupboards.

Siobhan Fagan as Minnie is a wardrobe mistress who is thrust on stage at the last minute with a script, a Charlie Chaplin suit and a lively moustache. Her straight comedy playing and innocent giggling are a delight.

Felicity, as a French chambermaid with the naughty Hoover, is superbly played by Linzi McCreadie. She demonstrates a good French accent and is a fun player throughout in her several other characters.

Last in this excellent team is Andy Gilbride, the long suffering stage manager, Gordon. He loses his eyebrow pencil, his virginity and lots of weight over the week's run. This is a physical tour de force for dead pan acting.

Sound is presented by Joyce (Colin MacDougall) lights by Malcolm (Dick Gibson) and the excellent, fully functional (in many unusual ways) set was designed and built by Peter White and Brian Gordon.

These two also painted the setting and Anita Lee completed the bizarre artwork. Props are managed by Janey White and the entertaining and oh-so-right costumes are managed by Jacqui Strachan. Quick change assistant is Lisa Wilkie and Moira Roach and June Riddoch hold the silent book.

Great productions like this are based on hard working, well directed rehearsals. Muriel Gordon has successfully trained, managed and directed her actors into a fully functional fun factory which pleases all the senses.

The play maintains brightness and pace and hits the 'sheer entertainment' button throughout.
