This week Blair Durno has furnished us with another photograph from his esteemed great grandfather’s extensive back catalogue.
It shows the St Thomas Tavern in the late 1800s.
In front and to the right are tavern patrons, and it is a shame we cannot discern their faces. The tavern is set against the stunning backdrop of Arbroath Abbey and although the fabric has changed little since this photorgaph was taken, the tavern, along with the adjoining houses have been demolished.
In their place is now the Abbey visitor centre with a grassy common stretching out in front.
