Capturing imaginations with autumn activities

ANGUSalive has organised a very broad range of activities for the whole of October.

With Angus school starting their autumn holiday at the beginning of next week, the question arises of how to keep youngsters amused during their time off.

ANGUSalive has again organised a range of activities to entertain all ages, interests and abilities during the break and beyond.

Children will be able to enjoy the Angus Glens by joining a Countryside Ranger for a walk in Upper Glen Clova to find out about the natural history of the area, or enjoy the stand-up paddleboarding revolution at Monikie Country Park, where they can learn to paddle and progress their skills in this increasingly popular water pursuit. With falls into the water a guarantee, this course provides plenty of fun and laughter!

Conservation activities are also available and include Adventure Week, Wild about Wildlife and Nature Ninjas.

To celebrate the current Royal Scottish Academy’s ‘Ages of Wonder’ exhibitions, workshops inspired by the critically acclaimed exhibitions have been curated for creative kids to enjoy.

Budding artists can learn how to sketch and draw people at Montrose Museum, whilst at the Meffan Museum in Forfar, future fashionistas can learn about printmaking techniques that are used in artwork to create a bag with their very own design.

National Libraries Week will see much-loved Bookbug making a special appearance at Friockheim and Letham Parks, giving families the chance to join the mobile library for a fun Bookbug outdoor session where they can also select books.

Kids can let their imaginations fly at the Craft in the Library sessions or Book Illustration Workshop where 8 to 12-year-olds can learn to create their own cover for a book of their choice.

Term-time favourites such as football, gymnastics and trampolining will be available as holiday activities, along with the ever-popular and fun Multi Sports.

Activities are tailored to suit all abilities, additionally there are activities for specific disability and inclusion groups. New to the Disability and Inclusion offering is Wheelchair Sports and Paddle to Pedal. If someone requires extra support, a buddy can be arranged at no extra charge. There’s also autism-friendly activity hour at the Signal Tower Museum and a sensory poetry walk at Forfar Loch.

If you’ve ever wondered what happens in museums at night, families can book a lamplit tour of the Meffan to find out.

For those who would rather be outdoors, National Poetry Week provides the perfect excuse for a Family Poetry Walk at Scurdie Ness and Forfar Loch Country Park.

There’s even a chance to catch a movie at the new Disabilty and Inclusion Family Movie Night at Montrose Library.
