ARBROATH Male Voice Choir is giving men the opportunity to perform with Lesley Garrett, CBE, Britain’s most popular soprano, who regularly appears in opera, concert and musical theatre; and on television and CD.
Lesley (pictured) is to be the choir’s special guest at their annual concert in March of next year in the Webster Memorial Theatre, Arbroath, and they are looking to recruit new members for what will be a truly memorable and unique occasion.
Arbroath Male Voice Choir will begin rehearsing for their forthcoming concerts when they resume their regular practice evenings after the summer break on Monday, August 22.
Choir president Dr Richard Irvine said: “This is our 77th year of making music, and Lesley is going to make this one extra special! This is an excellent and very exciting time to join the choir. We are currently looking for extra tenors and basses to swell the ranks. You’ll be assured of a warm and friendly welcome.”
He gave reassurance to any potential recruits: “We don’t have a formal audition, but you must be enthusiastic to learn, willing to have fun and sing in tune!”
He continued: “Choir singing is also superb physical exercise and a good mental workout too, so there are really no excuses for not giving it a go.
“How many times do you get the chance to sing with an international superstar? It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity!”
In addition to their special concert with Lesley Garrett, the choir also have several smaller charity and their popular Christmas concerts planned for the forthcoming season.
Anyone interested in joining can simply come along to the first rehearsal on Monday, August 22, at 7.30 p.m. in Knox’s Church hall, Howard Street, Arbroath.
Further information for recruits is available from the choir secretary, Mr Jay Ferrier, on 01241 876428.
