A Carnoustie minister played up a storm last weekend when he raised over £1,000 during a piano-playing marathon.
Rev. Matthew Bickett, of Carnoustie Panbride Church, raised £1,100 last Saturday during an eight-hour piano marathon in the Panbride Hall.
He undertook the Herculean task as part of the church’s Year of Stewardship of Talents which encourages people to celebrate their skills.
He said: “I volunteered to do this because we are doing the Year of Stewardship of Talents and we are encouraging people to use their talents and I though I would do this for my contribution.”
Matthew has been playing the piano for 54 years and it has been a lifelong passion for him.
The money was realised by donations from visitors who came to hear him play between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and will be used to help pay for a new kitchen annexe at the Panbride Hall.
Mr Bickett said: “There were people there at every part of the day and despite some cramp in my fingers half way through the afternoon, it fortunately passed and I managed to get to 5 p.m.!
“And I didn’t repeat any pieces I played!
“I am delighted that the sum raised will be in the region of £1,100 which is an amazing amount.”
