Carnoustie Theatre Club has received a five-figure funding boost, which is set to help them put a new heating system in place.

They are one of 110 Scottish groups to received lottery funding worth £846,502

The Awards for All funding was announced at the start of this week. Awards for All Scotland offers grants of between £500 and £10,000 to projects that bring communities together to enjoy a range of activities. It is a partnership by sportscotland, Big Lottery Fund and Creative Scotland.

Carnoustie Theatre Club received the maximum £10,000 and the new heating system it will help to purchase will aid the club “promote and encourage the study and practice of drama and film.”

Richard Gibson from the theatre club said: “We are absolutely delighted to be getting £10,000 to go towards the new heating system. We’ve still got quite a bit of money to raise.

“As a result of the new heating and insulation that we will install next year, the carbon foot print of the theatre will go down, so there is a wider community benefit. It will also reduce our energy bill by about £1000 per year.”

The heating system is part of a wider refurbishment programme for the theatre, with phase one of the project starting next June. Richard continued: “Phase one will cost around £35,000 to complete and we are someway towards that.”

Phase one will see the modernised seating installed as well as the heating, and the second phase will see enhancements to the lighting equipment, and the third phase will see an improvement to the space at the front of the building for audiences during intermissions.

Iain Munro, Deputy CEO, Creative Scotland, said: “We are delighted to partner again with sportscotland and the Big Lottery Fund on Awards for All. These National Lottery grants are vital in helping to deliver high quality, engaging arts projects across the country. Artistic and creative activity helps to shape and connect communities, and these projects will enrich people’s lives and wellbeing in many different ways.”
