THE £980,000 revamp of Carnoustie Seafront was officially unveiled at a ceremony featuring local school children on Tuesday.
The project was undertaken by Angus Council to ensure that the burgh continues to offer the best possible facilities for both local people and visitors.
The refurbishment, carried out by Dundee Plant Ltd., includes new play equipment and play surf
aces, footpaths, soft landscaping, new shelters, the refurbishment of the paddling pool, a crazy golf course and the creation of a dedicated area for teenagers.
Plans to revitalise the seafront were drawn up following extensive consultation with local people, including young people in the town.
To mark the input of the town's youngsters into the project, the opening ceremony was attended by pupils from the three local primary schools – Woodlands, Carlogie and Burnside, and the High School, including a section of the High School Band.

Depute Provost Peter Murphy officially opened the refurbished park at Carnoustie seafront. As the ribbon hit the ground, pupils from Burnside and Woodlands Primaries and Carnoustie High School ran in to be the first to try out the new facilities.
The official opening was carried out by Depute Provost Peter Murphy, who said: "The council carried out an extensive consultation to gain a clear idea of what people would like to have in the area and I am delighted that we have been able to meet the aspirations of the local community with this fantastic new facility.
"We have created an exciting and imaginative leisure and play area that will make the seafront a major attraction for local residents and visitors and is a huge asset for Carnoustie."
As part of the project, the council has installed CCTV cameras which are monitored from the Carnoustie Leisure Centre. This, in conjunction with the main works, professional fees and contingencies, brings the total budget to £1,197,500 – which is being met in its entirety from the sale of the Dalhousie Golf Club.
