45 lead the way for Armed Forces Parade

Arbroath town centre welcomes another celebration of the Armed Forces and Emergency Services tomorrow in Victoria Park at 1.30 p.m.

X Company from 45 Commando, RM Condor, will be leading the parade supported by veterans and cadets as well as representatives of the Emergency Services.

The march will start at Arbroath Abbey, move into the High Street, through the town, along Queens Drive, where the RM Condor Military Wives Choir will give a performance and stop in Victoria Park for a short remembrance service.

Hoping for sunshine the Parade Group organisers have been working hard and hope to make this years event even bigger than last year.

RM Condor Military Wives Choir are set to show off their best singing voices at the event followed by a display by a Pitts Special S2-A biplane in red and white livery.

Louise Ramage from the choir said: “There is going to be approximately 12 ladies performing on the day and we’re looking to sing ‘Stronger Together’ the original Military Wives choir song, Gary Barlow’s ‘Sing’ and the National Anthem.

“We are honoured to be included in the event and are very excited.”

The choir raises money for a number of military charities and also causes at the heart of Arbroath’s community.

The Lord Lieutenant of Angus, Mrs Georgiana Osborne will be in attendance as well VIPs Mrs Helen Oswald, the Provost of Angus, Councillor Major Ronnie Proctor, Veterans Champion for Angus, Chief Inspector Gordon Milne and Commanding Officer of 45 Commando Group, Lieutenant Colonel DJ Cheesman MBE RM, will take the salute.

Stalls from many of the organisations will be in Victoria Park from 12 noon to give demonstrations and chat to the public.

A climbing frame, Red Baron aircraft for children to sit in and be photographed with World War One style flying helmet, model aeroplane static display and Montrose Air Station’s Red Baron aircraft will be among the activities on offer for all the family.
