THE TRANQUILLITY of a summer evening in Arbroath was shattered on Thursday by Ray Ferris‘s 78 RPM rock and roll outfit from Manchester playing their first gig of a Scottish tour at Coast Restaurant.

The band, with ‘TJ’ on saxophone, kept the large audience transfixed with their good old fashioned rock ‘n’ roll. They opened their programme with the famous Jerry Lee Lewis number, ‘Great Balls of Fire’ before moving on to Eddie Cochran’s ‘Summertime Blues.’ They ended the first set with ‘Blue Suede Shoes’, a number initially made famous by Carl Perkins.

After a well deserved break and a lightning change, they came back with items from the repertoires of Elvis, Johnny Cash, Buddy Holly and a wide range of old favourites.

The band members were persuaded to do numerous encores before they were allowed off stage.
