A NEW FACE from Tayside Police attended Carnoustie Community Council meeting in Carnoustie High School last Monday.
Speaking about Operation Dry Up, PC McGaughey advised that they are continuing to fight the issues of under-age drinking in the town, which was a common and ongoing problem for the police, especially over the weekends.
All of 1,282 litres of alcoh
ol have been seized from youngsters in the Angus area over the last year and 182 letters had been sent to parents regarding their children drinking or being in possession of alcohol.
Police are aware that there are still adults purchasing alcohol for young people.
And they urge the public to contact them if they are approached by a young person to purchase alcohol on their behalf or if they witness another adult being approached by, or purchasing alcohol for young people.
PC MCGaughey advised that a 15-year-old youth was recently apprehended in the town with a large quantity of alcohol in his possession which he was going to pass on to other young people. He had purchased the alcohol from a licensed premises in the town using fake ID.
The premises which sold the alcohol had requested ID and this had been handed over; however, a report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal as a result of this.
Parents are asked to ensure their children are not carrying fake ID and to remain aware of where they are at night.
PC McGaughey said: "Often the kids that are caught under-age drinking are allegedly at sleepovers at a friend's house, and the friend's parents think they are sleeping at the other friend's house! We ask parents to check with a responsible adult if their children are going to sleep over at a friend's house."
