A CARNOUSTIE reader has expressed concerns about the new timetables for Stagecoach Strathtay buses, which come into operation on Monday.
He wrote: "My mother lives in Linefield Road, Carnoustie, and, like many elderly residents in the area, regularly uses the bus from the Westhaven Park/Chapman Drive bus stop.

"The service to these bus stops is being cut dramatically, almost to the
point of being withdrawn. In future it will have one early bus to Dundee and one evening bus back. Many people use this service during the day and would now have to walk to Carlogie Road to get a bus. This is a considerable walk for the elderly, disabled etc., particularly in the winter.

"Also, the timing of the new buses means that if they did use this service, they would be forced to go out in the dark winter nights - not a comforting thought for many pensioners."

A spokeswoman for Strathtay Scottish said: "The timetable changes due to commence on 6th July are part of Stagecoach Strathtay's service review.

"The changes affecting the Carnoustie area have been devised to improve links between Arbroath and Carnoustie. This is following passenger feedback from the last service changes in the area.

"From the 6th July the residents of Carnoustie will have a bus every hour from Westhaven Park to Dundee and buses up to every 20 minutes from Carlogie Road to Dundee, with more buses operating between Carnoustie and Arbroath.

"Overall, the vast majority of our customers will benefit from these changes, which will mean a simpler, more accessible and reliable network."
