Carnoustie couple Neil and Ella Fairweather celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary at their home last Thursday morning. Congratulating the couple were Depute Lord Lieutenant of Angus Lady Fiona Fraser and Depute Provost Peter Murphy.

There was cause for a double celebration as it was also Ella's 80th birthday. The couple celebrated the day with a meal out on the big day, followed by a family party on Saturday evening.

They were married in Barry Manse on April 24, 1948, on Ella's 20th birthday, having met at Swan's Tearoom in Carnoustie before going dancing. They have one son and three grandchildren.

Neil was a joiner all his working life, mainly in and around Carnoustie; and Ella worked for many years in the Co-op in the town as well as other local shops.

They were visited by Depute Provost Peter Murphy and Depute Lieutenant of Angus Lady Fraser during their celebrations.
