The organisation is a community based group that looks to promote community development in Broughty Ferry. It hopes to enhance and augment the facilities in the area already provided by Dundee City Council by accessing grants to provide community ass
ets.
Once provided, these assets will be run by the trust and its members with all profits going back into the community to further improve the area.
The Development Trust was constituted on June 1, 2009, by a core group of eight management committee members, all of whom have an excellent record of involvement in community based projects.
All have been involved in community issues in Broughty Ferry. They are Andrew Nicoll, Ruth Lonsdale, David Goodfellow, David Nicol, Ann Lolley, Nicholas Nicoll, Anya Lawrence and Hugh Begg. Bill Barr was also one of the founding members. He resigned from the management committee last August - but remains a member.
A recruitment drive held during gala week provided a list of volunteers, currently 90 strong, who are keen to get involved at a number of different levels and for individual projects within the larger vision of the Trust.
At tomorrow's meeting the company will be welcomed by Andrew Nicoll and information on why the group was set up will be provided in a presentation by Anya Lawrence.
Update on current projects will be given by Mr John Picken, architect, who will provide details on Barometer Cottage, Hugh Begg, who will speak about the Fishermen's Graveyard, and Ruth Lonsdale, who will reveal a new project.
Questions will be invited from the floor and those in attendance will have the opportunity to speak to trust members about the various projects.
Dundee East MP Stewart Hosie has given his support to the trust. He said: "I have been following the progress of the new community-based group which hopes to enhance and augment the facilities in the area by accessing grants to provide community assets.
"I think that it is an excellent initiative and those who have worked together to get this far deserve our congratulations.
"We have seen a number of highly-contentious planning issues in central Broughty Ferry and I am certain that Broughty Ferry Development Trust with Dundee City Council and other groups such as Broughty Traders and the community council can play a major part in obtaining better solutions which recognise the needs of the community.
"By promoting the wishes of local people and by the skills of the people involved in the group, Broughty Ferry Development Trust can make a big difference to the quality of amenities on offer to local residents."
