A PLANNING application for a mobile telecommunications mast in Carlogie Road, Carnoustie, has had neighbours reaching for their landline 'phones to complain.

The application has been made by Tyco Electronics UK, 122 Dundyvan Road, Coatbridge, Ml5 1DE on behalf of Vodafone.

The site is adjacent to a bus shelter, just outside the 30 mph speed limit in Carlogie Road.

Mr Roger Geddes, 7 Panbride Road,
is appalled that the site for the structure, which would be a total of 14.2 metres high, is not only in very open countryside, but on ground owned by Angus Council according to the application details.

He said: "My understanding is that Angus Council has a policy of not permitting mobile phone masts on its property.

"I would hope that this, alone, would be enough to consign this application to the dustbin."

There are other aspects of the application that caused Mr Geddes concern.

He continued: "The application is initially for a 12-metre structure.

"It is only when you look more closely at the details that you see that the total height will be 14.2 metres, or more than 46 feet.

"As well as being beside a bus shelter, it is directly opposite the publicity sails and roadside bunker, and Carnoustie place name sign."

Mr Geddes continued: "The overall height of the aerial with a GRP shroud on top will be far higher than the adjacent street lights and will dominate the landscape.

"As you well know the human safety aspects of these structures cannot be guaranteed and it is a human right of the population of Carnoustie to live in a healthy safe environment.
