A further major boost has been made to the fund to send 13-year-old Shannon Black, Birkhill, to America to remove a brain tumour that makes her suffer daily seizures.
Monifieth Bowling Club has given £5,100 towards the £100,000-plus that will be required for the journey for the specialist surgery to remove a 2cm benign tumour at the base of her brain, behind the brain stem.

The club ran raffles, held a fun run, sponsored horse rides and organised a ceilidh.

Organiser Margaret Lorimer was delighted with the outcome, and the fact that the sum raised is a substantial boost towards the total required.

Shannon's mum, Sandra, expressed deep gratitude to the bowling club members, and said that although there is a possibility that the NHS might fund the operation, there is still the cost of getting to America and back.

She added that the club had hoped to raise a couple of thousand pounds, but that the final total was fantastic.
