THE WOODLANDS Caravan park in Carnoustie, formerly operated by Angus Council, re-opened on Saturday under the new operator who successfully tendered for the lease.
In Forfar, however, there are complaints from shopkeepers that the new operators there are not going to open for the Easter holidays.

This is the first year the council has entered into leases with operators, having previously run the facilities i
tself.

Convener of neighbourhood services Jim Millar said: "It was decided almost two years ago that the best way to run the caravan parks in the future was for ownership to be retained by the council, but the sites should be put out to tender and leased. This move is designed to ensure continuing investment in the sites and is seen as bringing best value to Angus."

Angus Council approved leases for the Carnoustie site as well as those at Lochside, Forfar; and South Links, Montrose at the end of last year. Tenders were assessed on the basis of a number of factors including the rental offer and planned investment on the site.

Conditions of the leases include a commitment to investment in the site, and undertakings that all sites require to close for one month each year.

Other opening times for the sites are commercial decisions arrived at by the various site operators and were not stipulated in the contracts.

The council looked at five-year investment plans for the sites and these were used as part of the evaluation process. The property services department will monitor and evaluate this work.
