FRESH plans to the develop the former bathing shelter on Broughty Ferry Esplanade have been met with a lukewarm reaction from local residents.
Earlier in the year Dundee City councillors rejected a proposal by local businessman, Nazir Kashmiri, to transform the disused site in to a large restaurant and function suite spread over two floors.

At the time Mr Kashmiri's proposal provoked a f
urious reaction from local residents with a well-supported petition against the plans presented to local councillors.

Mr Kashmiri's company, NK developments, has now put forward new plans for a smaller restaurant spread over just one level.

Ruth Lonsdale of the Castle Terrace Action Group, the group which was founded at the time of Mr Kashmiri's previous application, reportedly found the latest plans disappointing and underwhelming.

Ms Lonsdale it is said found little exciting about the new plans which the group feels is a great shame on such a fantastic site. She added her disappointment at the lack of consultation between themselves and Mr Kashmiri over the future of the site.

Back in 2005 planning approval was granted for a restaurant on the site with the additional condition that the closing time be no later than 11 p.m. However, Mr Kashmiri has reportedly chosen not to make use of this approval due to his belief that larger premises will be required to make the project viable.
