THE COMMITTEE of Monifieth Community Centre Steering Group (MCCSG) is attempting to move forward the wishes of more than 2,000 residents of Monifieth to be able to make use of leisure and recreational facilities similar to those provided, managed and maintained in other towns by Angus Council.
A spokeswoman emphasised: "It is definitely not a case of 'look at what they have got and we want it'."
She continued to say that the taxpayers of Monifieth have been very patient over many years waiting for their wishes to be granted. It would se
em that the Good Fairy or Santa Claus and Angus Council have passed them by.
The spokeswoman added: "They, the 'wish granters' do not seem to be getting the messages or letters explaining their needs. The question was asked by them: 'Who would use such a centre?'. But surveys were carried out to establish if there was a need for such a facility.
"Agreed, this could have been so long ago that people have forgotten or have only moved into the town in the past six to eight years and not been consulted. Certainly the rapid expansion of the population indicates this as a possibility.
"However, since it was established and accepted that there was a need for a Monifieth centre nothing has happened, i.e. Angus Council has made no commitment towards provision of a necessary building. The pavements and street lights have been replaced and perhaps this explains why the youth of Monifieth hang about the High Street with nothing to do other than admire them."
She ended by saying: "The group would be interested to learn if organisations or groups which are currently meeting 'outwith' the town would be receptive to the use of a Monifieth community leisure and recreational facility for all ages groups and interests."
