ANGUS Talking Newspaper Association is appealing for volunteers to help keep the service running in Carnoustie and Monifieth.
The association, which is voluntary, produces a free CD every month for people across Angus who are visually impaired and can't read newspapers.

However, they have been left without a team to produce a CD for the Carnoustie and Monifieth area and
chairman of the association Alex Burnett is hoping to find some new volunteers to maintain the service.

He said: "The service is important to people who are visually impaired because it is one of only a few ways they can get to know what is going on in their local area.

"It is also of benefit to people who are physically disabled and might not be able to hold up a newspaper to read."

The association is hoping a team of around four people will be able to volunteer and they will be provided with a laptop to produce the CD.

Mr Burnett added: "The recording only has to last for 15 minutes and whoever leads the team will have complete editorial control with what stories they record.

"Volunteers must be able to operate computers but we will also provide them with guidance along the way."

Angus Talking Newspaper Association was set up in 1982 after it was noted that there weren't any versions of local newspapers for the visually impaired.

Mr Burnett explained: "Talking newspapers provide valuable assistance and it would be a shame for the visually impaired in Carnoustie and Monifieth to miss out."

Anyone interested in helping out the Angus Talking Newspaper Association in the Carnoustie and Monifieth area can contact Alex Burnett on 01307 464849.
