VANDALS caused over £4,000 of damage when they smashed more than 70 panes of glass in the Geddes Greenhouse at Barnhill Rock Garden over the May holiday weekend.
And the vandalism has been condemned by the Friends of the Barnhill Rock Garden group and users of the public parkland.

Dundee's leisure and communities convener, Councillor Richard McCready, said he was disgusted at the damage the yobs had caused
.

Councillor McCready said: "I visited Barnhill Rock Garden on Tuesday morning, and I was appalled by the sight which greeted me.

"I want to express my sympathy to the volunteers from the Friends of Barnhill Rock Garden and also to staff from the leisure and communities department who work really hard together to make the rock garden a very special place.

"I hope anyone who has information on these acts of vandalism will contact Tayside Police.

"Barnhill Rock Garden has been recognised with the award of a Green Flag as one of the best parks in the country, and I am determined we will do all we can to maintain that position.

"That means building on the partnership between local people and the city council which has been so effective in creating an excellent place to visit.

"I will be contacting Tayside Police to discuss any action the city council can take to prevent crime at the rock garden, and I will be contacting the Friends of Barnhill Rock Garden to express my concerns and assure them of the continued support of the city council for this partnership."

Tayside Police said inquiries are continuing, and urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the force on 0845 6005705.
