Police Scotland is holding a special event to connect with Arbroath’s youth and offer a solution to the age old cry ‘but there’s nothing to do!’.

Under the banner of Operation Ajax the event hopes to showcase some of the many activities on offer in the town at the CAFE Project, Brothock bridge, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Sergeant Colin Cunningham of the Angus Community Team South explained: “Operation Ajax and is specifically aimed at young people in Arbroath. We are trying to divert young people away from anti-social behaviour and into local groups and clubs.

“The main complaint we get from young people in the town, is that ‘there is nothing to do!’.

“The purpose of this event is to show that there is plenty to do, whether that is joining a local sports club or getting involved in volunteer work, there are lots of groups out there who are keen to get young people involved.”

In addition to local clubs and activities there will also be staff from Dundee and Angus College on hand promoting their courses, as well as recruiters from the Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy.

The Community Policing Team will also be there to offer advice on local policing matters and provide information about recruitment as a Full Time Constable or volunteer Special Constable with Police Scotland.

He continued: “Thanks to generous funding from the Give It A Go fund, and Halfords Arbroath, we are also offering bicycle security marking and safety checks to anyone who comes along.

“There will also be several chances for young people to win a set of bicycle safety lights if they bring their bike for a check and complete our road safety quiz.

“Police Scotland is all about Keeping People Safe, whether we are preventing or detecting crime or ensuring that our roads are safe, we can do it better if we work together with everyone in our communities.

“So come along to the Cafe Project at Brothock Bridge, Arbroath, this Saturday, meet and have a chat with your local Community Policing Team and see if there are any activities available in the area that grab your attention.”
