A FAMILY-RUN Arbroath garage will be changing hands in the New Year.

Alexander Addison and Son’s garage at 76 Montrose Road will be taken over by Carswell Properties in February, and it may continue as a garage.

Mechanic Alexander Addison, jnr., has run the family business for the last 50 years, but felt that at the age of 71 it was time to retire.

The garage was opened by Alexander’s father, Alexander Addison snr., in 1934 and was joined by young Alexander in 1961.

The garage has served Angus motorists faithfully over the years, performing MOTs, car repairs, drive through car washes and for a while, petrol.

In 1984, Alexander’s own son, Steven joined the business as an apprentice, and in 2004 became a partner and started a successful car dealership on the forecourt.

Sadly, Steven was diagnosed with cancer and passed away at the age of 43, leaving his father to run the business on his own.

Alexander now plans on using his retirement to spend more time with his wife Maureen and his several grandchildren, as well as on his hobbies of skiing, caravanning and Arbroath FC.
