Plans have been announced for the 20th annual Arbroath Sea Fest and it is full steam ahead for a weekend of fun, music and maritime memories.

Arbroath Sea Fest will take place on August 13 and 14 this year and there will be plenty to do, including the return of some old favourites.

Chair of Arbroath Sea Fest Committee, Marco Macari, said: “To mark our 20th anniversary, we’re delighted to be bringing back one of the most popular attractions from the early days of Arbroath Sea Fest – the Fisher Wedding.

“After the success of last year’s contest in the marina, Arbroath Sea Fest’s raft race will be taking place again this year, along with a new event – a fundraising ‘It’s a Knockout’. This will enable local charities and organisations to raise much-needed funds by being sponsored to take part in some crazy challenges and activities, with a £100 prize for the winning team.”

Other events taking place at and around Arbroath Harbour during the weekend of August 13-14 will include live music from top local bands, cookery demos, children’s activities and daily opportunities to watch Arbroath’s RNLI Lifeboat power down the slipway into the sea for a re-enactment of a rescue.

Marco continued: “With a new lifeboat on order for Arbroath Harbour which will be launched from the beach rather than the slipway, this may be one of the last chances to witness the spectacular sight of the lifeboat being launched from Arbroath’s historic Lifeboat Shed.”

Eleanor Whitby of Red Pepper Events has been managing Arbroath Sea Fest for 10 years and reckons 2016 is going to be one of the best years yet for the community-led event.

She said: “It’s still early days but the programme is already looking highly promising, especially as there are more events and activities to be confirmed.

“Last year, 30,000 people attended Arbroath Sea Fest and in our 20th anniversary year, we expect many people to make a special trip to Arbroath to join in with our celebrations. We’re pulling out all the stops to ensure everyone has a fabulous time!”

Eleanor added that the Sea Fest Committee is keen to hear from anyone who would like to be involved in the two-day festival. She said: “Organisations who would like to help out behind the scenes; musicians, singers or groups who would like to participate in our highly-popular entertainment programme; raft race and ‘It’s A Knockout’ teams; and potential stallholders should contact”
