Rehearsals are under way for Tayside Symphony Orchestra’s first concert of 2015 which will take place on Saturday, February 7 in the Reid Hall, Forfar.

Taking the form of ‘February Flourish’, the programme consists of music from films/shows including selections from ‘Wicked’, ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’, Gilbert and Sullivan and the ‘Bond’ movies.

Among several other well-known works on offer are ‘Si j’etais roi’ and Barber’s ‘Adagio’.

Bill McLeod, TSO chairman, said: “Once again it’s sad to report that our regular conductor, Ron Walker, is unable to take part in this concert due to ill health.

“But I’m delighted to say that, once again, Andrew McGarva, his deputy, has agreed to take over from Ron.

“It’s true to say that already Andrew has made an excellent impression on the players and our audiences by his leadership at the past two performances.”

If there is sufficient demand a bus will run from Montrose/Brechin to Forfar - details nearer the time.

There will also be a special concert on June 20, 2015 which will be the last concert Ron Walker will take part in, after 22 years in charge.

Tickets will be available in the new year for the February concert from Toy Castle, Forfar; Hogg’s, High Street, Montrose or TSO members.
