The first jazz night of the New Year at Hospitalfield House will take place at the end of the month.
Starting off the venue’s 25th anniversary year will be a tribute to Count Basie performed by the Tom Gordon Septet on Saturday, January 31.
The band is led by Tom Gordon who is the drummer in the BBC Big Band and, as well as including an all-star Scottish line-up, will have, as special guest, the London-based singer and trumpet player, Georgina Jackson.
Alan Steadman, who runs the jazz events, said: “This is a great way in which to start off the monthly programme of concerts for what is going to be a very special year for Jazz at Hospitalfield.
“The music of Count Basie has stood the test of time and will be in capable hands, given this particular line-up. Georgina Jackson is steeped in the big band tradition and was a big hit when she first appeared her two years ago.”
Her first two albums, ‘‘Til There Was You’ and ‘Watch What Happens’, have both been critically acclaimed in jazz circles.
Tickets costing £12 can only be reserved by phoning 01382 774648. The concert is supported by La Moda of Friockheim.
