River Street, Brechin
River Street, Brechin

Residents in Brechin have been evacuated after flooding in the town as a result of Storm Frank.

The River South Esk breached at the caravan park in Eastmill Road, with the result that the area requires to be evacuated for the public’s safety.

Several properties have also been affected in Eastmill Road.

The river also overtopped next to the Brechin Leisure Centre at about 5pm, with the result that steps are taken to evacuate River Street.

Water levels are expected to peak between 8 and 9pm.

Angus Council has set up a support centre at Brechin High School for any local residents who are in need of shelter as a result of flooding in the area.

Council staff and emergency services are in the area to deal with the incident.

A rest centre was also set up at Montrose Sports Centre, earlier today for any residents who required to be evacuated in Montrose and the surrounding area.

Those who didn’t wish, or require, to leave their homes in affected area were provided with appropriate advice.

As of just about 5pm today the following areas in Angus were affected by floodwater:

• The B955 at Glenclova, the B957 and C32 at Justinhaugh, which are closed due to the South Esk overtopping.

• Milton Park at Finavon where flooding has affected a private road and properties.

• The B957 Tannadice road is closed and sandbags are being deployed in the area.

• The road above Edzell is passable with care.

• The A937 is closed at Marykirk.

• Flooding at Craigo with residents living near to the river asked to leave their properties.

• The B9113 at Tollhouse is passable with care.

• The C38 road is closed at Gannochy.

• Sandbags have been requested and issued in numerous areas various parts of Angus.

Residents should be aware that while the rains appear to have eased, the rainfall is still working its way through the county’s rivers and watercourses.
