Earlier this summer Bethany Craigie along with mum Karen joined thousands of women, running walking and dancing to raise money for Cancer Research in the Race for Life.

Bethany caught the fund raising bug and decided to host a summer BBQ with a twist.

The August event was held in the garden of her home address in Lochty Street, Carnoustie, where she had created lots of activities to keep the hungry guests at bay until the food was grilled to perfection.

Over 100 supportive family and friends attended the barbecue to make it a sizzling success.

Prior to the event Bethany visited local shops asking for raffle donations.

She was amazed by the response with some businesses donating prizes and services valued at as much as thirty pounds.

Even the food served was helped, in part, by charity conscience businesses. The burgers were purchased at a discounted price from Grossett’s Butchers in Dundee and the rolls donated by the JM bakery.Café Westfield donated twenty portions of their finest Chicken Bhuna and rice which was was also snapped up on the day.

Bethany’s mum Karen said: “Needless to say they were very well received with revellers coming back for seconds.”

During the event there was a raffle, tombola, hook a duck, throw the money at the bottle, guess the square, cake and candy, loom bands, throw the wet sponge at the stocks (Robin Marshall), picture boards and of course burgers.

Beat The Goalie was supported by Dundee Legend Jim Smith who even looked the part in his retro strip.

Glorious sunshine added to the occasion, making the day a huge success.

Bethany would like to thank everyone for their support prior to and during the event.

Together they have helped to raise the total that is still rising with donations of those who could not attend on the day.

This money alone can give 10 cancer patients the opportunity to take part in clinical trials.

Local businesses who supported Bethany’s barbecue were: The Station Hotel, Donald Ford Images, Nickel & Dime, Co-op High Street, The Tee Caddy Robbies, Carnoustie Leisure Centre, Fin & Co, Big Bounce Dundee , Links to Scotland, Boots the Chemist, The Harbour Gallery, Angus Trophy Centre, Ganges, Olives, Biking Direct Gather, Pixiestix, Tesco Monifieth, McDougals Newsagent, The Granary, Spar High Street, Spar Barry Road, Swetchies, The JM Bakery, Carnoustie Golf Sop, Co-op Barry Road, A&A Hairdressers, Studio 54 Hair Salon, The Bed Studio, J&K MacLagan Newsagent and Grosset’s Butchers in Dundee.
