A NEW community group set up in Carnoustie is hoping to bring a smile to the faces of the elderly in the community.

Carnoustie Befriending was launched on Saturday with a coffee morning in the Philip Hall, which was organised by Una Wardrop and Jean Brown who formed the group.

They are now appealing for volunteers to come forward who can give up a small amount of their time to go and visit people in the town who may not have many family members or get many visitors.

Una explained: “There are some people, especially the elderly in Carnoustie who may have a home help but they might not see anybody else from one week to the next.

“What we are trying to do is make sure they have they have someone visit and just chat to them or take them out for a walk.

“It is just something for these people to look forward to.”
