A MAJOR promotional drive is being undertaken by retailer Blockbuster to draw consumers into local stores this bank holiday weekend.
The Arbroath outlet at Fisheracre was one of 264 Blockbuster stores and 2,000 jobs saved when the film and game rental chain was acquired by leading restructuring specialists Gordon Brothers Europe last month.
At the time of the announcement, the company spoke of substantial investment with plans to utilise the existing trading platform and customer database, alongside a focus on extending the product offering, introducing new technologies and better basic retailing.
The first phase, a programme of aggressive promotional activity, kicks off this bank holiday weekend. All local Blockbuster stores will offer customers the opportunity to rent a new movie release for one night for just £1.99 driving footfall and giving the public the chance to rediscover Blockbuster.
Moving forward, the business has plans to extend its product offering to include music alongside a compelling range of books and ancillary items that complement its position as an entertainment retailer.
Blockbuster managing director Gary Warren commented: “We are absolutely focused on building Blockbuster to be a long-term proposition.
“There is a very real gap in the market for an entertainment specialist and, with its strong brand recognition and heritage, Blockbuster is perfectly placed to capitalise on this.
