CARNOUSTIE girl Brooke Ramsay had an extra special birthday this year.

The younsgter, who turned eight on Monday, received an e-mail that day informing her she had been given a date for the selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) she has campaigned for since August.

Brooke and her family will now travel to Bristol’s Frenchay Hospital for the SDR procedure on Tuesday, July 10, which will hopefully reverse the effects of her cerebral palsy.

According to mum Laura, Brooke was overjoyed when they told her at breakfast on Tuesday morning. She said: “Brooke was absolutely delighted, when we told her. She just started screaming. She’s just wanting to get it done and get on.”

Laura added the family had been surprised by the quick turnaround. She said: “It’s very scary - this is what we’ve been fund-raising for, but now it’s a reality. We’ve been taken up with the fund-raising and we didn’t think it would be this soon. “We are absolutely delighted. It was just a big shock,”

Brooke has been sharing her good fortune this week, and on Wednesday presented Lennon Thomson with a cheque for Lennon’s Fund, which supports the toddler who has been left with developmental problems by cerebral palsy.
