Bucket collection for Archie

Oor Wullie got another cheque dropped into his bucket last week after Carnoustie Links donated £4000 to his fund.

On Monday, November 21, in the Golf Centre, Carnoustie Golf Links Management Committee handed over a cheque for £4000 to Cassie Thompson, representing the Archie Foundation.

Having already sponsored an Oor Wullie - the statue dubbed Oor Golfer - for the Oor Wullie Bucket Trail this summer, the Links decided to add to their donation from their charitable fund.

Having reached their £1 million target though the Bucket Trail and subsequent auction, the Archie Foundation are looking to extend their fundraising to create even more facilities for the Children’s Theatre in Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.

A Links spokesman commented: “We were surprised at the amount of interest and attention from the public during the summer towards Oor Golfer and how keen people were to have photos taken with the statue.

“At the Senior Open all the top golfers signed the bucket, thus greatly adding to its value at auction.

“Although the bidding went beyond us, we had no hesitation in making this additional donation to such a worthwhile cause.”

Cassie Thompson thanked Carnoustie Golf Links Management Committee for their generosity and said she was pleased Oor Golfer had been such an attraction at the Golf Centre.

Last month the Links Committee, in their role as a charitable trust, dispersed £15,500 to a number of local causes.
