After nearly nine years dispensing DIY advice and making the shop a community hub, Peter Burke is retiring from The Fobel Shop.
On Monday he will pass the reins over to new owners Kenny Watt and June Finlay and it will be business as usual at the Park Avenue shop.
Kenny said: “I had been working in the Shetlands for five years and I thought it was time for a change when June saw this was up for sale.”
The couple have a varied background in plumbing, catering, housing and local government, which should stand them in good stead running the Fobel.
The Fobel also plays an important community role as town box office and so on.
June said: “The Fobel is a community hub and we’ll be looking to keep all that and we don’t intend to change anything. We would rather keep it as it is, although we will be looking to tweak the shop eventually. It will all depend on what the public want. We are hoping to keep up Peter’s good work.”
Peter is looking forward to retirement, however, he still wears many hats and it may not be a very quiet one! He said: “I’m looking forward to spending more time on my allotment which has gone to wrack and ruin at the moment and I will be continuing my work with the Carnoustie Development Group and South Angus Parents of Adults with Learning Difficulties (SAPALD).
“I wish June and Kenny all the best for the future and I would like to thank all our customers for their support and I am confident the Fobel remains in good hands.”
