LAST week the Guide & Gazette aired rumours suggesting that Carnoustie’s premier hotel had changed hands.
On Monday, we were able to confirm that was true and reveal that London-based firm Bespoke Hotels had taken over the management of the Carnoustie Golf Hotel.
It will join 34 other Oxford Hotels and Inns properties being transferred to Bespoke’s existing sub-brands Beloved, which features a collection of four star deluxe hotels and Befriend, a selection of three star value-for-money options.
The Golf Hotel has become a popular destination for visiting golfers taking up offers on golfing holidays and whose business has, in turn, filtered out into the rest of the town.
According to Peter Burke, chair of the Carnoustie Development Group, the Carnoustie Golf Hotel has also become a valued contributor to the local economy.
He said: “Over the last couple of years, the relationship between the town and the Golf Hotel has improved, mainly due to the efforts of Gordon Mackintosh, the manager.
“It’s good news that, even though the hotel group was in trouble, the hotel has been taken over.
“Gordon has focused on employing local people and buying produce locally, more so than previous management, and we are grateful for that. We hope and assume that will continue, because it is beneficial for the town.”
Chair of Carnoustie Community Council Jim Simpson said he was also pleased to see that the Carnoustie Hotel’s future was safe.
He said: “In this difficult economic climate, it is vital for the town and surrounding area that the hotel continues to thrive now and into the future.
“We wish Bespoke Hotels every success with their new acquisition.”
The chief executive officer of Bespoke Hotels, Haydn Fentum, was pleased to add the Carnoustie Golf Hotel to the Bespoke collection.
