The firms behind a new business park and housing on the outskirts of Carnoustie have submitted their pre-application notice to Angus Council.
The project at Upper Victoria is a joint venture between developer DJ Laing Homes and K&D Henderson and the proposal is for 24 acres of employment land in the first phase and mixed housing in the second.
Arbroath-based architects the Voigt Partnership submitted the plans. Their spokesperson said: “The proposed allocation of land use integrates business and housing in a controlled, phased development approach.”
The proposed site will benefit from the Upper Victoria link road providing a direct link to the A92, and heavy goods traffic in the future would be redirected to alleviate congestion in the town centre.
Drainage impact assessments have been carried out and these support the delivery of phase one.
The project can be delivered within existing infrastructure and without external public funding or grants, and extensive landscaping has been proposed to enhance the western entrance to Carnoustie.
DJ Laing managing director David Laing said: “This is a tremendous opportunity for our company and Carnoustie. Local businesses will be able to achieve their expansion plans without relocating outwith the town. The increasing demand for small starter units by new and small businesses will also be accommodated. Ultimately, this project will secure local employment and apprenticeships and stimulate growth in the local economy.”
The Upper Victoria site is listed by Angus Council’s Main Issue report as a preferred development site.
And the project will also provide opportunities for further community development including relocated recycling facilities, extension to Shanwell Cemetery, improved link road to Clayholes and the regeneration of other brownfield sites in town.
On Monday, March 31, between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m., there will be a public open day at Laing House, to allow viewing of the proposals, with a final presentation at 7 p.m. Interested parties are invited to attend and there will be feedback forms available.
