A CARNOUSTIE woman has become the first female president of the local branch of the Scottish Building Federation (SBF).

Karen Nicoll was voted in as Dundee and Angus Association president of the SBF at their recent annual general meeting.

A director with Carnoustie company DJ Laing, Karen has been with the firm for 23 years and was instrumental in them receiving the 2009 Investors in People award.

In her new role Karen is keen to see a reverse in the trend which has seen public investment in housing schemes in Angus and Dundee drop by 58 per cent in the four years preceding June 2012. Karen said: “I recognise the huge challenge local authorities across Scotland currently face in delivering core services at a time when public funding is being drastically cut.

“But it’s alarming to see the rate of public sector new housebuilding in Dundee and Angus has fallen so dramatically when demand for new homes is at a record high.”
