With Scotland basking in the success of The Ryder Cup, VisitScotland has revealed golf is just one of the activities to feature in a campaign to encourage visitors to come and explore Angus in the autumn.
In partnership with Angus Council, the national tourism organisation is using a combination of press and digital media, to showcase a range of ‘Brilliant Moments’ in the region.
This month sees the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, the Carnoustie Country Festival of Golf and the World Hickory Open Golf Championships all taking place in Angus, enhancing Scotland’s reputation as the ‘Home of Golf’.
The campaign also features opportunities for active adventures and great walking routes in Angus as well as the region’s world-class food and drink, attractions and events taking place during the autumn.
The activity is part of VisitScotland’s £5.3million Brilliant Moments campaign and will run until mid-October. It has the potential to be seen over two million times.
Last year saw almost 400,000 trips made to the Dundee and Angus area by visitors across the UK. With the Commonwealth Games, Year of Homecoming and the upcoming Ryder Cup, it is hoped the area will draw even more visitors during 2014.
Jim Clarkson, VisitScotland Regional Partnerships Director, said: “This year has provided a fantastic opportunity to promote tourism in Scotland.
“Angus is just one of the regions that has benefited from this unique year with businesses and attractions welcoming people from across the globe.
“However, we need to keep that momentum going and show visitors, and potential visitors, that the area is a treasure trove of ‘Brilliant Moments’ regardless of the season.
“Tourism is more than a holiday experience – it creates jobs and sustains communities and we’ll continue to work hard to promote Angus as we move into the Year of Food and Drink 2015.”
Councillor Mairi Evans, spokesperson for tourism at Angus Council, said: “Autumn is a great time to visit Angus – there are a wide range of events and activities taking place for wildlife lovers, and walking in the Angus Glens provides spectacular views of the changing colours of the countryside.
“We are delighted to be working with VisitScotland as part of the ‘Brilliant Moments’ campaign.
“And of course we have already started planning our activity for Year of Food and Drink 2015, so that we can attract even greater numbers of visitors to the area next year.”
