CARNOUSTIE air cadets had a successful time at the Glamis Gathering at the weekend and also saw some well-deserved promotions within their ranks.

Cadet Sergeants Tom Podger and James Parker of 2449 (Carnoustie) Squadron, Air Training Corps were recently promoted to Cadet Flight Sergeant.

Also from the squadron, Corporal Sarah Mills was made Cadet Sergeant and Cadets Jack McGillivray and Andrew Young both became Non Commissioned Officers with the rank of Cadet Corporal.

Seven members of the squadron, under the watchful eye of Cadet Flight Sergeant Podger, helped man the stall in the Carnoustie tent at the Glamis Gathering where they displayed some of their coursework on the ‘Principles of Flight’.

The cadets also joined colleagues from Arbroath, Montrose and Brechin in the Air Training Corps contingent of the formal parade, giving them a chance to show off their parade drill.

The cadets will again take to the drill square next month at Perth as part of the North-East Scotland Wing during the ceremony for the laying-up of the Corps Banner.

The Squadron continues to actively recruit at present and are looking for new members aged between 13 and 17 who are interested in aviation or perhaps a career in the Royal Air Force or indeed just making new friends.

Anyone wishing for more information should contact the acting Officer Commanding Andy Swierczek on 01241 859921 or drop in to the Squadron any Monday or Tuesday evening between 7.30 and 9 p.m.
