An Arbroath woman is planning to walk 10,000 steps a day to raise money and awareness of the plight of young women in impoverished countries.
Caitlin McIlroy is taking part in the CARE International UK campaign ‘Walk In Her Shoes’ which starts on Sunday (March 8) and will see her walk five miles per day for seven days between Arbroath and Auchmithie.
The campaign is aimed at helping youngsters go to school, especially in situations where they would normally have to instead spend their time walking for miles to fetch water.
It is being supported by celebrity Sandi Toksvig and each participant is asked to raise £100 by March 24.
Caitlin explained: “I will walk five miles a day for seven days in sympathy of the children who still have to carry water every day.
“It will be easy for me; I have my full health, good shoes and plenty of food to sustain my efforts and nothing important to carry.
“I know Arbroathians already do a lot of good abroad so there might not be any spare pennies left, but if anyone wants to donate online, this is my everydayhero page: http://walkinhershoes2015.everydayhero.com/uk/caitlin”
Caitlin will also be publishing on YouTube videos of her walks which she hopes will capture the beauty of the Angus coastline and they can be found at www.youtube.com/c/CaitlinMcIlroy.
