CARNOUSTIE Theatre Club’s production of Calendar Girls by Tim Firth is due to be performed at the town’s Dibble Tree Theatre from Sunday to Saturday, May 19 to 26.
Tickets sold out without actually going on public sale due to unprecedented demand from club and honorary members. However the opportunity for anyone to see the show but who has missed out on tickets for the Dibble Tree performances will come due to the club staging a one-off performance at Carnoustie High School Theatre on the evening of Saturday, June 8.
All proceeds from this show will be donated to the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research Fund.
The story behind the play itself is now a thing of almost legend.
David Cheape, the producer for Carnoustie Theatre Club’s version, said: “Our club is known for the considerable talents of both its many actors and its backstage team and we hope to do justice to this play and capture its emotion and fun. We want to make it, in the words of one critic, marvellous theatre, guaranteed to make you laugh, cry and come out singing Jerusalem!
“We have been astounded by how fast our club members and their families and friends have bought tickets for the seven performances by using their rights as members to priority booking. The response was such that all but a small handful of tickets remained to go on sale at The Fobel Shop.
“I am pleased to advise that the club has agreed to put on an additional performance at Carnoustie High School Theatre on Saturday June 8. With tickets priced at £10 each. All proceeds will go to the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research Fund. Tickets for this one off performance will go on sale at the Fobel in Carnoustie on Saturday, May 11.”
David concluded: “We would encourage everyone to come along and have a great night out, assured in the knowledge of raising vital funds for a most deserving charity.”
