A NEW Community Council could be set up for Monikie and Newbigging after a resident’s petition was received by Angus Council.
During the community council elections held in October 2010, there were less than half the number of candidates for the vacancies in the Monikie and Newbigging community council area.
This meant that the community council could not be established at that time.
A notice of election was published on Monday and candidates have until 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13 to submit their nominations and personal statements.
Candidates are able to withdraw their nomination up to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20.
A spokesperson for Angus Council said: “If there are sufficient candidates to fill the 10 vacancies on the community council, there will be no contest and all candidates will be elected to serve.
“If there are more candidates than vacancies, a poll will be held from Monday, July 9 and the count and declaration of results will take place on Monday, July 16.”
