Plans to develop the Carlogie Road site in Carnoustie have been deferred after Angus councillors voted 7-4 in favour of the motion.
Councillor David Fairweather seconded the application deferral proposed by Carnoustie councillor Bob Bowles stating: “Carnoustie should be open for business but we have to make sure it’s the right site and the right people.”
The application made by Angus Estates and Muir Group, to develop the site as an ‘employment area’ was initially recommended for approval.
A rival bid by DJ Laing Homes for the Upper Victoria area has been lodged and is still in the consultation stage.
Concern was raised that the deferral by Angus council could result in a costly challenge if the applicants, Angus Estates and Muir Group, sought an appeal with a Scottish Government reporter.
