The site of the new Carnoustie Co-operative store was the centre of a bomb scare today (Tuesday).

Officers from Police Scotland Tayside Division cordoned off the construction site on Barry Road after what is believed to be an unexploded bomb was discovered.

Army bomb disposal experts were dispatched to the scene to investigate the find.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland, Tayside Division said: “An EOD [Explosive Ordnance Disposal] unit is investigating what’s believed to be an old piece of ordinance.

“The EOD are in the process of identifying the object.”

The new Co-op store is being built on the site of a former petrol station in an area of the town which had stood derelict for a number of years.
