THE THREE Sections of 1st Carnoustie Company, Boys’ Brigade, the Anchors, Juniors and Company, started back this week in St Bride’s Church hall, Maule Street, after the summer recess.
The meet nights of the respective sections are as follows: Anchors – Thursdays, 5.45 to 7 p.m. (covers ages five to eight years); Juniors – Thursdays, 7.15 to 8.45 p.m. (covers ages eight to 11 years); Company – Fridays, 7.30 to 10 p.m. (covers ages 11 to 18 years). All boys aged five to 18 years are welcome. The three Sections offer a challenging programme tailored to the needs of the boys and throughout they are encouraged to make their own decisions and recognised for their efforts and achievements. In the last two years of the Company Section, the boys start working towards the Queen’s Badge which is the highest award that can be gained by a member of the organisation.
Working towards the Badge, which is on par with the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, offers the candidates the chance to engage with the local community, take responsibility within the Company, set personal goals and experience a keen sense of achievement. The boys who attain the badge will find that they are equipped with a range of skills which will stand them in good stead for the rest of their lives. Furthermore, when it comes to seeking employment or a place at university they will find that having the award in their CV will prove to be a ‘door opener’.
The staff in charge of each Section can be contacted as follows: Daphne Davidson, Anchors, 01241 853068; Alex McGill, Juniors, 01241 853134; Bryan Knight, Company, 012241 852521. The Company has its own website: http://www.1stcarnoustiebbs.co.uk.
