Scouts in Carnoustie have started a fundraising to drive to pay for a trip to Gibraltar to meet Scouts out there next summer.
Carnoustie Scout Group has organised several events from a pop-up shop to a fancy dress fun-run to a trip to Livingston Designer Outlet to raise the funds for travel costs.
Brenda Miller, chairwoman for the Scout group, said: “After a successful trip to Shetland last year we are now planning one for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to Gibraltar in July 2017. This will allow all the kids to meet the Gibraltar Scouts, use their facilities and explore their surroundings, including caves, beaches and adventure trips to the waterpark too.
“This will a first opportunity to fly and go abroad for many children.
“We hope to fundraise to cover some of the transport costs. We are a charity group and appreciate everyone’s support and donations.”
The Scout’s effort kicks off this weekend with two very different kind of fundraisers.
Tomorrow (Saturday) the group will be running a pop-up shop in For Carnoustie from 9am to 5pm. New items will be brought in for the shop and cake and candy will be on sale for a donation.
A raffle on the day will have prizes including golf, spa and zoo vouchers.
On Sunday the Scouts will be getting into the Hallowe’en spirit by dressing up in fancy dress for a 5k ‘zombie’ fun-run open to all who must be in fancy dress. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Participants will meet at 4.30pm at the scout hall on Links Avenue and at 5pm they will be running, or walking, around the Black Slab, along to Barry Links Railway Station and back again. To take part it is £5 per adult and £2.50 per child, which should be paid on the day with interest registered beforehand.
On Sunday, November 27, the group is organising a shopping trip to Livingston Designer Outlet. The bus will depart from Carnoustie at 9am and return at 5pm. Tickets, priced at £15 for adults and £12 concessions, are on sale now from The Floor Studio, Dundee St, Carnoustie, or by contacting Brenda on 07901697446 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The group will host a coffee morning on December 3 and at Christmastime its bright green post boxes will be popping up all over town. Scouts will hand deliver cards in return for a donation.
