Carnoustie councillor Bill Bowles has vowed to keep raising the issue of Carnoustie’s controversial £4.75 million golf links development until it is discussed fully by Angus Council.

Mr Bowles also attacked the local authority after his attempt to have the matter raised at a meeting of the full council today (Tuesday) failed.

He had lodged a procedural challenge to suspend standing orders to allow an earlier decision on the project to be reconsidered.

But with administration councillors voting against the motion, it failed to achieve the two thirds majority required to proceed.

The project has divided opinion with concerns raised at the impact its proposed new bar and restaurant could have on local businesses and oppoents have also questioned the figures put forward in its business plan.

Mr Bowles said: “It’s an absolute affront to democracy not to allow the local elected representative to be heard.”
