A Carnoustie man will be making locals sweat for charity with his own brand of fund-raising.
Richard King has organised a charity bootcamp to raise money for Maggie’s Cancer Care and help people in Carnoustie lose a little weight for a good cause.
On Thursday between 12 noon and 3 p.m. at Pitskelly Park, Richard will put volunteers through their paces for a donation.
And this will be no ordinary bootcamp as the volunteers will flip tyres, pull weighted sleds and engage in team challenges like a tug-o’-war.
Raising money for cancer research is a subject close to Richard’s heart as in 2010 he was diagnosed with the disease.
He said: “When I came out of the RAF I had my own business as a personal trainer at DW Sports in Dundee.
“In April 2010 I was diagnosed with stage three throat cancer and all that had to stop.”
Richard believes his fitness was vital to his recovery but the experience left him physically weakened.
He said: “I can see from other people’s perspective now, what it’s like to be extremely unfit and unhappy with yourself.”
