A free information pack has been produced by Action on Hearing Loss Scotland, to support employers in Arbroath recruiting staff with hearing loss.
The charity’s ‘Sound Advice’ guidance will be particularly useful to organisations who are hiring extra staff in the run up to Christmas.
The pack is the work of the charity’s ‘On the Move’ project and provides employers with best practice guidance on how to ensure recruitment processes are accessible for people who are deaf or hard of hearing and how to make the ‘reasonable adjustments’ that are required by the Equality Act 2010 for employees with hearing loss. It also gives information on where employers can get support for employees with hearing loss and communication tips.
Delia Henry, Director of Action on Hearing Loss Scotland, said: “As businesses gear up for the busy period in the run up to Christmas we want employers in Arbroath to know how they can best support people with hearing loss in the workplace.
“Our ‘Sound Advice’ pack has extremely useful information that takes employers through the process from employing someone with hearing loss to creating the best environment for someone who is deaf. Putting the right measures in place not only means that employers are meeting their legal obligations but creating a positive work environment.”
