Classical farce at Gardyne Theatre

BROUGHTY Ferry Amateur Operatic Society’s latest offering is ‘A funny thing happened on the way to the forum’.

It is based on the book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gilbert, with music and lyrics by Steven Sondheim, who previously wrote the lyrics for ‘West Side Story’.

The story revolves around slave Pseudolus and his attempts to escape slavery by helping his Roman master woo their next door neighbour.

Based on the farces of Roman playwright Plautus, it features all the classic elements such as puns, mistaken identity and satire.

The production runs from Thursday, April 19, to Saturday, April 21, at the Gardyne Theatre, Dundee, with curtain up at 7.30 p.m. and a matinee on Saturday beginning at 2.30 p.m.

Tickets are priced at £15 or £13 (concession). To book call the City Box Office on 01382 434940 or 01382 775362 after 6 p.m.
