BROUGHTY Ferry beach has excelled at the mandatory water testing for bathing areas, it has been announced.
Just over a week after it was reported that Broughty Ferry had been awarded the Resort Seaside Award flag for the eighth straight year, SEPA also announced that the beach had also passed its first water test of the summer.
What is more, Broughty Ferry passed at the highest end of the testing spectrum, with samples exhibiting bacteria levels well below those allowed for by the top rating.
However, the Marine Conservation Society awarded the beach only a basic pass in their Good Beach Guide, a decrease of two levels from the ‘recommended’ rating it had boasted for the last two years.
The reduction in water quality is believed to be the result of changing weather and environmental factors, coupled with more stringent European guidelines.
