Commando Kids challenge

MINI-MARINES will get the chance next month to take part in a Commando challenge to raise money to help injured servicemen.

Commando999 is organising a Royal Marine Commando-themed activity day at Monikie Country Park on Sunday, June 24 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. which will see teams of four put through their paces by a team of Royal Marines.

The teams are split into age groups from ages nine to 16 and will see the children tackle various challenges, including a commando fitness test involving a log run, speed march, fireman carry and obstacle course.

Other activities will include a laser-tag capture the flag, a commando climb, a canoe race and an observation challenge.

Teams will have to raise a minimum sponsorship of £400 to take part and a deposit of £40 needs to be made to register participation.

The teams will compete in a round robin format and all participants will receive a completion certificate, t-shirt and C999 wristband.

For those too young or too old to take part there will be a host of other attractions such as military bands, a bouncy castle and a barbecue.

All proceeds will go to the Royal Marines’ Association and Commando999 aims to raise £1 million for the RMA 2014 the Royal Marine Corps’ 350th birthday.
